Enough

George Floyd was a human being, wasn’t that enough? He was handcuffed face down on the ground, wasn’t that enough? He was held down at the neck by the knee of a police officer while handcuffed and was unable to breathe. He said so. “I can’t breathe”. He called for his Mama, wasn’t that enough to say? He said “I’m about to die”, isn’t that enough for someone to stop doing what they are doing? Not just any person, a trained police officer, an employee of ours, we paid Derek Chauvin to serve and protect us all. He clearly heard the shouts of people say George Floyd can’t breathe, why wasn’t that enough to make him stop?

Black men have been wrongfully shot, beaten, arrested, incarcerated, and killed for hundreds of years, is that enough? When, and how much, will be, enough? George Floyd was murdered by a police officer while three other officers aided and abetted, is that enough?

I have had enough. Minneapolis has had enough. Minneapolis is in the spotlight; we have an opportunity to be the epicenter of brightness in the world. I challenge myself, my family, my friends, our elected officials, the people of Minneapolis/St Paul, and all people of Minnesota to become the change, to become the love we seek in this world. George Floyd was not valued as a human being, as one of us, as a brother, a father, a son, a person who was loved. We need to change that shit now. I’m getting off my old, white, and inadvertently racist ass and doing something. I can’t stop crying. I apologize for not doing more sooner. I will fuck up, I will be sorely inappropriate, I apologize. I don’t know the answers, I’m starting with this, I’m not stopping.
